Dr. James Fischer is a highly skilled, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of the hand and upper extremity. He takes a comprehensive approach to care that is expertly tailored to meet each patient’s unique needs.
Dr. Fischer completed advanced fellowship training in hand and microvascular surgery at Duke University after earning his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine and completing an orthopedic surgery residency at IU’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Prior to medical school, he earned a master’s degree in biology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (now IU Indianapolis) and worked as a contract biologist and laboratory supervisor for testing labs.
Dr. Fischer has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications and presented research at academic institutions, including IU and Duke. He is an active member of the American Association for Hand Surgery, serving on its government affairs committee, and previously served as a resident board member for the Indiana Orthopedic Society.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Fischer enjoys spending time with his wife and son, watching IndyCar racing and IU Hoosiers athletics, biking, fishing, and catching a good movie.
