SAMEER K. PURI, MD
Sameer Puri, MD joined the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center in November 2020 after spending 5 years in practice at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Puri’s practice encompasses all aspects of hand, elbow, shoulder, and microsurgery. He has specific expertise and interest in the management and reconstruction of brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries throughout the body. Dr. Puri understands that both simple and complex hand and arm conditions can have tremendous impact on a patient’s function and quality of life and strives to provide individualized care that best suits the needs of each patient. He offers evidence-based advice on available non-surgical and surgical treatment options.
Dr. Puri graduated with honors from Tufts University in Boston, MA with a BS in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering and a BA in Philosophy. He earned his MD at the Tufts University School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honors society. He continued his training in orthopaedic surgery at the Tufts Combined Orthopaedic Residency program. During residency, he was recognized with the American Orthopaedic Association-Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation Resident Leadership Award. As chief resident, he won the Henry Banks Outstanding Resident Award.
He went on to complete his fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, the top ranked orthopaedic specialty hospital in the nation (US News and World Report). There he received specialized training in brachial plexus and nerve reconstruction, microsurgery, and management of complex elbow conditions.
Dr. Puri is dedicated to physician education and research. He has published peer-reviewed research, review articles, and multiple book chapters. His most recent textbook chapters cover topics including brachial plexus reconstruction, nerve injuries, tendon transfers, and hand trauma. He serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery and has presented at American Society for Surgery of the Hand conferences.
